The theme of SASTE 2023 is “Science Education: Learning at the Crossroads of Science, Society, and Students.” This meeting will take place from Oct 6 – 8, 2023 at Florida International University in Miami, FL.
Timeline and Format
SASTE 2023 will follow a similar timeline to past meetings, with social events occurring on
Friday (Oct 6), formal conference events occurring on Saturday (Oct 7), and working group meetings occurring on Sunday (Oct 8). We’ll also continue to conduct this meeting as a hybrid event, with in-person and virtual attendees participating in the same activities to the extent possible. Travel and Accommodations
The Miami area is served by two major interstates (I-95 and I-75) as well as two major airports
(MIA and FLL). You’re invited to book your stay at the Courtyard Miami at Dolphin Mall hotel using this link for a special SASTE rate. (Please book no later than Sep 8 in order to guarantee this rate.) A scheduled shuttle service will transport attendees who stay at this hotel to and from the university campus where SASTE 2023 will take place.
You are invited to submit proposals for the work that you’d like to share at this meeting! Proposal types include traditional papers, works in progress, or “advice from the trenches,” and formats include poster presentations, traditional in-person presentations, and virtual presentations via videoconferencing. Please use this link to submit your proposals. All proposals are due Aug 14.
Far West Region News

Our region has been busy. The first piece of news is that we have a new website for our region. We hope you will take a few minutes and peruse it.
We are excited to host the 2025 Annual International ASTE conference in Long Beach, CA. If you’d like to find out how you can volunteer to be on the local planning committee, please contact Corinne Lardy at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We will have our fall Far West Regional meeting in collaboration with the California Science Education Conference in Palm Springs, CA on Oct. 20-22. We will have a business meeting and conference opportunities in which our members and their students may present. There is no cost to participate, but you must register for the California Science Education Conference. Be sure to reserve your hotel room early. Submit a proposal by August 15, 2023. The winter Far West Regional meeting will be held in collaboration with the Hawaii International Conference on Education (January 3-6) in Waikoloa, Hawaii. We will have a business meeting and conference presentations. There is no cost to participate, but you must register for the Hawaii International Conference on Education. MA-ASTE Region News

The MA-ASTE 2023 planning committee is excited about welcoming you to the beautiful Meadowview Conference Center in Kingsport, Tennessee, for our Fall 2023 Conference. We will meet on Sept. 21 and 22, 2023. (Participants can arrive on 9/20 Wednesday evening for dinner on their own.) The conference will include paper and poster sessions and all meals on Thursday, September 21, and Friday morning, ending after lunch on Friday, September 22.
Below you will find information about proposal submission, the Obenauf Graduate Student Award, conference registration, and lodging. We know many of you are making your plans for the next academic year and need to use travel funds before July 1st.
Proposal/Abstracts are due June 30 (10 days before the ASTE proposal—this could be your warm-up for proposal writing!). Your proposal should include a title and a 150-word abstract. Graduate Students – Patricia A. Obenauf Graduate Student Research Presentation Award
Eligible graduate students should consider applying for this travel award to the International ASTE conference in New Orleans. For more information see the link to the information on the MA-ASTE site: OBENAUF AWARD.
The registration due date is August 10, 2023. Your registration covers the cost of the meeting spaces, all meals on Thursday and Friday through lunch.
